October 21, 2009 - New Google Sidewiki launched

Google is taking the next step in conquering the world. Its latest browser add-on has been launched September this year.

As it turns out Sidewiki is not a new invention and similar ideas have been launched several times in the past. One of them is Third Voice, which was burned in flames. Google however is not a start up company and has a much bigger reach and capabilities which can be a deciding factor in the success of the project.

Well lets look in details at what this add-on is providing us with and why it has made so much noise in the marketing industry.

Sidewiki is feature of Google toolbar that is currently compatible only with Firefox and Internet Explorer, but Google is working on extending its reach on other browsers including its own Google Chrome. This feature allows ANY website visitors to leave comments about any webpage and share them with others. It also allows visitors to highlight any particular part of the website and leave specific comments about it as well.

What it's in it for us?

Well, there are two sides to this sword. One, is that all the information about the companies, their products, and services is going to be more transparent and general public is going to be more alert about any scam offers/companies or just inferior products or services. On the other hand, this feature is not controlled by any specific organization, so people are free to leave whatever is on their mind about anybody's personal or company's website which can be as simple as scam, but as bad as unethical reviews or even offensive comments. So, it is going to interesting to see how this project evolves and how the users are going to react to it.
